A pinfu hand: which tile do you discard?

A closed hand (no calls): you have drawn and must discard one tile. This hand practises pinfu: all four sets must be runs, the pair must not be a yakuhai pair, and the wait must be two-sided.

Which tile do you discard?

Answer:東風

打掉之後就聽牌,聽 三條、六條,共 8 張。

This hand is already tenpai: 45s waits on 3s/6s (two-sided), the sets 123m, 456m, 678m and 456s are all runs, and the 99p pair is not yakuhai — winning would be pinfu. Discarding the lone East wind keeps exactly this shape, with 8 winning tiles left (four 3s and four 6s). Breaking 45s or 99p looks like it leaves more "tiles that improve the hand" (the engine counts 23), but that is bought by stepping back to one shanten — and the winning shape is no longer pinfu. What this puzzle practises: do not trade a tenpai you already have, and the yaku it needs, for a bigger tile count.
